From day one, running for Seattle City Council has been an incredible experience. One of the things I have enjoyed most is the opportunity to spend time getting to know people in every part of the city. Every one of Seattle’s neighborhoods has something different to offer. The chance to find out what makes each neighborhood distinct and vibrant has been inspiring and exciting. At the same time, it has been very eye-opening to get a clearer idea of the challenges different neighborhoods face as they struggle with issues like affordable housing and public safety.
With ballots now in voters’ hands and Election Day less than three weeks off, we’re focusing more than ever on bringing my campaign directly to the citizens of Seattle. This Sunday and next, (October 18 and October 25), we’re holding a special “Bike With Mike” tour of Seattle.
This Sunday, we’ll start out from Seward Park at about 11am and visit a dozen different neighborhoods in South Seattle and West Seattle, including Beacon Hill, Georgetown , South Park, and Delridge.
Next Sunday, we’ll set out from campaign headquarters in Fremont and visit more than 25 North Seattle neighborhoods, including Ravenna, View Ridge, Lake City, Crown Hill, Ballard, and Queen Anne.
A number of supporters and campaign volunteers are planning to ride with me for the Bike With Mike tour, and I encourage you to join us on bicycle if you can, or to come out to meet us when we are in your neighborhood. You can find a schedule by clicking on ‘more’ at the end of this post.
The Bike With Mike tour is a great chance to share our message of positive change for Seattle based on our belief in progressive values, fiscal responsibility, and smart investments that focus on priorities like affordable housing and expanded public transportation.
It’s also a great opportunity to learn more about the concerns that Seattle citizens have about their city and their neighborhoods. Most important, it’s a chance to see spend some time getting to know neighbors and neighborhoods across the city even better.
I’m looking forward to seeing you on the ride or meeting you in your neighborhood this Sunday and next Sunday.
Mike
